KATHERINE M. CARTER is a New York based director of theatre, opera, and events. She is the co-founding Artistic Director of The MITTEN Lab, an annual residency for emerging theatre artists, now in its second year in her home state of Michigan. With a continued commitment to build social conscious work through adaptations, Katherine founded The Other Mirror Theatre Company in 2011. Work includes; Gods & Kings (Sheen Center), Mirror Alchemy, Going Away, Bite the Apple, and Madame Bovary.
Katherine produced several high-profile brand activations for Fortune 500 companies at global events such as Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, SXSW in Austin, and ShopTalk in Las Vegas. She is on the events team at CCGroup.
With the Little Orchestra Society in New York, Katherine is co-creator and director of the wildly popular LOS KIDS concert series (2015, 2016-2017, and upcoming 2017-2018).
As a 2016 Wolf Trap Directing Fellow, she staged the Spotlight Scenes, From Lute Songs to the Beatles, featuring Steven Blier, the America the Beautiful 4th of July concert with the National Symphony Orchestra, and assisted Paul Curran on La Boheme. Her other work in work in Opera includes new productions of Albert Herring and La Cenerentola (best Director 2010) with Boston Opera Collaborative. She has worked with Eric Einhorn at On Site Opera, and was a guest-teaching artist with the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus.
Katherine is a 2016 Drama League First Artist and 2015 Rough Draft Fellow, 2011-2012 Playwrights Horizons Directing Resident, a guest director at NYU’s Stella Adler and Atlantic schools, and a two-time director for Directors Company Adaptations for the Stage Workshop (2010, 2011). She is a member of Directors Lab Chicago (’11, ’14), a New Georges Affiliated Artist, a member of SDC and the League of Professional Theatre Women.
